Nigeria : Petroleum varsity wins SPE petroquiz, to represent Africa in Texas

Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State, will represent Africa in Houston, Texas, after emerging overall best university in Nigeria in the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) organised inter-university PetroQuiz Competition, which held at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Delta state, in February.

The Vice Chancellor of FUPRE, Prof Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, disclosed this during the Founder’s Day lecture delivered by Augustine Avuru, a former managing director of Seplat.

Twenty-five universities, where petroleum engineering is studied, participated in the competition

The achievement qualifies the SPE FUPRE chapter to represent Sub-Saharan Africa in Houston-Texas at the PetroBowl international competition scheduled to hold between 3rd and 5th of October, 2022.

FUPRE defeated the University of Calabar (44 – 1) at the third stage, the University of Port-Harcourt (79 – 16) in the quarter-final, Obafemi Awolowo University (53 – 14) in the Semi-final, before defeating University of Uyo (42-10) in the final of the competition.
