CAIRO - 8 May 2022: Some 550,000 trademarks are registered with the Internal Trade Development Authority, said ITDA chairman Dr Ibrahim Ashmawy Sunday.
An additional 140,000 international trademarks have as well been registered so far, Ashmawy told a scientific conference, the fifth, organized by the National Institute of Intellectual Property at Helwan University.
The conference was held under the auspices of Higher Education Minister Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.
Trademarks are considered intellectual property rights in Egypt, Ashmawy told the gathering. A trademark is part of the commercial activity because it determines the identity of the product and the kind of service offered, he noted.
The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade gives top priority to the files of trademark registration and intellectual property rights, Ashmawy stressed.
