Nigeria : Reverse petroleum products prices or face protests, group tells FG

A group, Citizens for Righteousness and Social Justice (CRSJ), has given the Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to reduce the pump prices of petroleum products to the normal price or face protest of its members.

Chairman of CRSJ in Imo State, Bishop Kenneth Obi, who addressed journalists in Owerri at the weekend, lamented the high price of petrol from N165 per litre to about N240 and diesel at N700 per litre, leading to rising fares and prices of goods and services without corresponding salary raises.

Obi lamented that Imo people were subjected to unnecessary hardship and sufferings without any indication of government’s commitment to address the problem, insisting that only protests could stop government’s insensitivity and the constant increases.

The cleric also asked the Federal Government to ensure that those who imported bad fuel into the country were sanctioned accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.

Oti, who lamented that Nigerians were suffering, while poverty level was rising, leading to deaths and criminality, appealed to the Federal Government to check corruption in the country.
