Morocco:ESEC opinion on the correlation between strategic minerals and industrial sovereignty

The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) organized a workshop on Wednesday to present the conclusions of its opinion on “strategic and critical minerals contributing to the industrial sovereignty of Morocco”.

The president of the EESC, Ahmed Réda Chami, underlined on this occasion that the fact of tackling this subject takes place in view of the critical importance of strategic and critical minerals in the promotion of industrial sovereignty and the achievement of development, and given the international context marked by strong demand for these minerals.

Here are the main recommendations of the Council’s opinion:

– Improve the general framework and the institutional framework governing activities related to strategic and critical minerals and strengthen sector governance

– De-risk the mining sector for investors and improve its attractiveness

– Strengthen and promote the productivity of the sector around R&D, human capital and the organization of VSMEs

– Secure supply chains and reduce vulnerability to external sources

– Promote a national valuation of strategic and critical minerals for a better positioning at the level of the value chains linked to the energy and digital transition and to the orientations of the NMD

– Promote the inclusive and sustainable nature of the mining sector.
