WEF: Algeria ranked 4th in Price Competitiveness’ category- Report

In its annual report “Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017”, the World Economic Forum (WEF) ranks Algeria 118th out of 136 countries.
In its annual report on competitiveness in travel and tourism published on April 5th, the WEF has ranked Algeria in fourth place in the Price Competitiveness’ category behind Iran, Egypt and Malaysia occupying the top three places, which were followed by Indonesia, Tunisia and India.
However, the cost of staying in Algeria remains the only advantage for tourists wishing to cross the border.
The latter have found themselves confronted with obstacles which often discourage them.
Among the first obstacles: international openness, since Algeria wants to be among the countries most difficult to access, thus arriving at 134th place out of 136.
This could be explained by the fact that in Algeria, priority is not given to tourism, the WEF also ranked Algeria 131st in the category “Prioritization of Travel & Tourism”.
In addition, Algeria is still trying to do better in safety (81st place) and Health and Hygiene (89th place).
However, much remains to be done in terms of tourism infrastructure and transport. Indeed, Algeria ranks 131st in the category “Tourist Service Infrastructure”, in the 100th place in the category “Air Transport Infrastructure” and 105th for “Ground and Port Infrastructure”.
