Sharp fall in import of tourist vehicles in H1 2017

The import of tourist vehicles by car dealers has experienced sharp fall during the first half of 2017, a senior official of the Customs told APS.

Between January and the end of June 2017, the invoice for tourist vehicles imported by car dealers amounted to $ 111.33 million, compared to $ 382.52 million in the same half of 2016, a fall of 71% .

The number of imported tourist vehicles was 7,787 units, compared with 35,571 units in the first half of 2016, a decrease of 78.11% in terms of number.

According to the same official, these 7,787 vehicles represent the remainder of the orders made by the dealers in 2016, knowing that the import licenses for the year 2017 have not yet been granted.

In this aspect, the invoice for CKD collections imported by dealers in connection with the industrial assembly of tourist cars in Algeria amounted to about $ 540 million in the first half of 2017 compared to $ 268 million in the same half of 2016.

The overall import bill for tourist cars and CKD collections was $ 651.45 million in the first half of 2017, compared with $ 650.5 million in the same half of 2016.

Moreover, this senior official of the Customs pointed out that the importation of vehicles by private individuals has increased from 6,950 vehicles for $ 170 million in the first half of 2016 to 13,918 vehicles for $ 373 million in the first half of 2017, an increase of 100.26%.

As a reminder, the import invoice for tourist cars and CKD collections amounted to nearly $ 1.3 billion in 2016, compared with $ 2.04 billion in 2015 and $ 5.7 billion in 2014 .
