Inland fishing: Algerian pikeperch attracts interest of European markets

The pikeperch, a fish living in fresh water and caught mainly in dams in Algeria, has been exported towards European markets, said Friday General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Agriculture Ministry.

Asked on the sidelines of the opening of the 7th International Trade Fair for Fisheries and Aquaculture (SIPA2017) currently held at the Oran Convention Center, Taha Hammouche, affirmed that Algerian pikeperch, of superior quality, is of particular interest to European consumers.

“This fish can reach a weight of 14 kg. He is one of the best freshwater fish. In his case, the price-quality ratio is of great interest to the consumer, with a range of between 500 and 800 DA,” underlined, for his part, the Deputy Director of Continental Fisheries at the level of the DG for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Fadela Séridi.
