CAIRO – 20 October 2020: A report released by the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine states that Egypt's exports of oranges during this season have hit 1,398,025 tons until October 14.
The report attributes Egypt's rank as the world's top exporter of oranges for two years in a row in 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 to the high quality of the product, and the eagerness of Egyptian farmers to meet the standards of markets consuming their produce.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation also played a role in opening new markets for Egypt's agricultural products by tracking the cultivation and packaging processes to ensure they meet safety criteria. In addition, no products are allowed out the country unless they are up to standards.
Last season, Egypt exported 1.68 million tons of oranges, 70,000 tons of lemon, 35,000 tons of mandarin, and 15,000 tons of grapefruit, according to Finance Brokerage.
Egypt's top 20 food exports reached $242 million in September, the General Organization for Import and Export Control (GOEIC) said in a report Sunday.
