Egypt’s president follows up on cooperation with German shipbuilding company Lürssen

CAIRO – 18 July 2022: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has followed up on cooperation frameworks between the Egyptian side and the German shipbuilding giant Lürssen during his visit to Berlin.

Sisi received Peter Lürssen, owner and board chairman of the company, in the German capital on Sunday with the presence of commander Ahmed Khaled, supervisor of Egyptian military industrialization, and Egyptian Ambassador in Berlin Khaled Galal, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

During the meeting, Sisi affirmed the importance that Egypt attaches to cooperation with the German company given its international professional reputation in the maritime industries.

For his part, Lürssen hailed the joint cooperation between his company and Egypt in the company’s fields of work and the promising direct investment opportunities in Egypt.

This comes especially in light of the comprehensive development that Egypt has achieved in the infrastructure sectors over the past years.

The meeting tackled cooperation with the German company, which has deep experience in the fields of maritime industries and developing arsenals.

The meeting also discussed cooperation regarding the technical training programs and boosting the capacities of the Egyptian cadres in these fields in accordance with the international standards.

In August last year, Sisi received Peter Lürssen in Cairo, where they discussed the executive status of cooperation to develop the maritime industry in Egypt.

The meeting discussed the cooperation in terms of the training and qualification programs for the technical human cadres to raise their capabilities in this regard.

This comes within the framework of the state’s strategy to localize the industry and transfer modern technology.

Sisi met in July with a delegation from Lürssen to examine ways of developing the Egyptian naval industries system and plans of technological upgrade in the sector.

The plans include introducing the most modern technology in shipbuilding and training engineers and technicians.

President Sisi has been in a two-day official visit to the German capital that started Sunday to attend the Petersburg Climate Dialogue, which is held between UN climate conferences, as per an invitation by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Sisi’s participation in the annual dialogue comes less than four months from the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which is set to be hosted by Egypt in November in the Red Sea city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Egypt has vowed during the conference to work on transferring climate action from the stage of pledges to the stage of action, especially by encouraging providing required funding to the countries to fulfill their climate responsibility and ensure the implementation of climate adaptation.
