Algiers:Imports: Hike in food, drop in medicine over first 7 months


With regard to milk and its derivatives, the import bill jumped to 879.8 million dollars against 566.13 million dollars during the same period last year, an increase of 55.33 percent, according to the figures of the National Center for Automated Information and Statistics of Customs. Sugar and sugar imports recorded the same trend, rising by 36.39 percent to 698.51 million dollars, compared with 510.1 million dollars during the same period of 2016. Oil imports for the food industry rose to $ 521.81 million from $ 409.98 million, up 25.08 percent.

The grain import bill (wheat flour, soft wheat), flour and flour rose to $ 1.68 billion, compared to $ 1.56 billion (+0.02 percent).

During the same period, Algeria imported $ 251.10 million worth of coffee and tea for $ 221.81 million (13.16%).

Algeria also imported $ 197.35 million of dry and other grains for $ 165.71 million (19.09%).

Meat imports amounted to $ 152.1 million compared to $ 148.88 million (+ 2.12 percent).

On the other hand, the import bill of medicines declined between January and July 2017 to $ 0.7 billion compared to $ 1.14 billion during the same period of 2016, a decline of 6.38 percent.
