Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel on Monday received Italias Minister of Interior Marco Minniti, who is on a working visit to Algeria.

In a statement to the press following the hearing, Minniti stressed that he and Messahel had discussed bilateral relations, the joint fight against terrorism and transnational terrorist organizations and the stabilization of Libya.

Minniti noted that relations between the two countries are already excellent, expressing his will to further strengthen bilateral relations. Algeria and Italy have a vital interest in the Mediterranean and especially in the Central Mediterranean, he said.

Concerning cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism, Minniti described it as excellent, stating that the Algerian experience in this field was valuable.

It is a multidimensional approach that takes into account different aspects, not only of struggle, but also of prevention through a strategy aimed at weakening the threat, in particular religious radicalism, he  indicated.

Speaking of the Libyan crisis, Minniti said Algeria and Italy are interested in stabilizing the country because a stable Libya is crucial to the fight against terrorism and human trafficking.
