Algeria : Agriculture Minister calls for encouraging aquaculture in southern regions

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing Abdelkader Bouazgui called Saturday in Algiers for encouraging aquaculture in southern region, as a promising segment.

Speaking during his visit to a farm in the municipality of Mraguene (northern Adrar), the minister called for the promotion of aquaculture activity in the southern regions, as a ” promising activity to strengthen the meat market locally, “he said.

The existence of some 1,500 aquaculture ponds across different farms in the wilaya of Adrar constitutes a first milestone in the development of this activity and is likely to ensure production of freshwater fish with a high nutritional and economic value.

The minister also stressed the importance of increasing the number of aquaculture ponds in the wilaya and of getting closer to farmers and investors to raise awareness of the sector’s promising prospects.

“Aquaculture in the southern regions, a dream in the past, has become a palpable reality today, thanks to the will of investors in the field,” he said.
