Algeria, a key partner for stability in the region, Japanese ambassador says

The Japanese ambassador to Algeria, Masaya Fujiwara, said on Tuesday in Algiers, that Algeria is considered a strategic and a key partner in ensuring stability in the region, welcoming the good level of bilateral relations, the National People’s Assembly (NPA) said in a statement.

“All the conditions are there to establish a strategic cooperation between both countries,” said Masaya Fujiwara.At the hearing granted to him by, Abdelhamid Si Afif, the chairman of the NPA Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Community Committee, the ambassador of Japan highlighted “the good level of relations between Algeria and Japan which will soon celebrate the 55th anniversary of their creation, indicating that Japan considers Algeria as a strategic partner and a main actor guaranteeing stability in the region “.

Both sides emphasized the importance of “strengthening parliamentary relations between both countries through the two parliamentary friendship groups”.

The two officials agreed on “the importance of exchanging visits and experiences and promoting coordination and consultation in this area,” the source said.

On this occasion, Mr. Si Afif presented an overview of the new NPA component and reviewed the important political reforms, undertaken by Algeria under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The chairman of the committee stressed that “the Constitution has devoted participatory democracy, freedoms and rights and conferred new prerogatives on the legislative power, in addition to revitalizing the role of the political opposition and parliamentary diplomacy”, added the statement.

Mr. Si Afif also mentioned the pioneering role of Algeria in the fight against terrorism and its experience in the field of national reconciliation, which laid the foundations for peace and stability, establishing itself as a “model”. He also said that “Algeria and Japan are major partners in the fight against terrorism”.

In this regard, the Chairman of the Committee reiterated Algeria’s commitment to the principles of its foreign policy, in particular the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and the support of just causes and rights of the peoples to independence and self-determination; like the Palestinian and Saharawi peoples.

Speaking on the economic side, Mr. Si Afif highlighted the economic challenges Algeria faces in its efforts to diversify the national economy, stressing that Algeria aspires to take advantage of the experience of friendly countries and partners, concluded the statement.
